I am Mrs Jan Tizzard and I have been Cook in Charge at
Staple Hill for many years. I still find the job challenging,
interesting and fun. We provide a hot school meal with a pudding,
and as a recent addition, we also provide a sandwich options.
There are two sittings for lunch.
We cook on site for as many as 170 people, which can be challenging.
Dinner Money
Dinner money can be paid weekly, monthly, termly and even daily. The money should be placed in an envelope with your child's name, class name and the amount of dinner money included written on it and your child should hand the envelope to their class teacher in the morning, preferably on a Monday. If your child is not staying to dinners for the full week, please also put which days they are staying. Dinner money is dealt with by our cash collector, Julie Brookman who is in school between 9.30 and 11.30 am daily. If you have any queries regarding dinner money payments please send a note to school addressed to Julie or contact the school office who can pass on your query. If your child is vegetarian (there is always a vegetarian option on the menu) or has special dietary needs then please let the school know in writing. Drinks are provided by the kitchen for those children having hot school meals. School dinners cost £1.60 per day - £8.00 per week.
Facilities are provided for those children who wish to have packed lunch. This should be brought in a rigid container clearly labelled with the child's name and class number. If a child forgets or loses their packed lunch, a hot lunch will be provided and the relevant amount charged to the parents.
Provisos for packed lunch:
Drinks may be brought in as part of the packed lunch. They
must:-
Not be in glass containers or be cans of fizzy drink.
The carton or flask must be contained within the sandwich
box. Storage facilities for packed lunches are limited.
The container should have a strong top to prevent leakage
but the child should be able to open it themselves.
Free School Meals
Applications for free school meals may be made through the school office if you live in South Gloucestershire. You will need to bring your income support book with you or a letter stating that you are entitled to income support which is less than three months old. If you live in Bristol Unitary Authority you should telephone 0117 903 6666 and they will arrange for the necessary forms to be completed.
