News Update
‘‘Shu-bow-dhupur!’’ – which means “Good afternoon” in Bengali, our Language of the Term. Did you know that there are 22 different community languages in our school? Of course, we all speak English and more than 160 of us have English as our First Language; our other languages, in case you didn’t know are: Somali, Polish, Portugese, Bengali, French, Russian, Turkish, Thai, Arabic, Dutch, Pahari, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Mandarin (Chinese), Visayan, Italian, Latvian, Pahari and Farsi. That’s amazing!
Also amazing was the “Pinocchio” show enjoyed by Key Stage 2 this week. The show was a huge success and – judging by the audience participation throughout – went down very well with children and staff. This company have always come up trumps and we have already rebooked them for a further show in the summer and for January 2013. Soon it will be Key Stage 1’s turn when the wonderful “Storybox Theatre” returns – you should already have received the letter with further details.
Talking of impressive performances, the children of Primrose, Lavender andSunflower classes have been producing some great stories and art-work for their “Wonderland” topic. They will be having a special Wonderland tea party – further details to follow.
This term’s Headteacher’s Coffee Morning will be held this coming Monday 6thFebruary. We will begin at 9.00 in the Hall. All parents and carers are welcome – as always. If you could wait for the children’s classes to be led in first, I will invite you in from the playground at around 8.55.
Mrs Jenkins has a special request for our Gardening Club. We were hoping some of you might have some suitable patio slabs or rockery stones you could donate. If you can help with this, please speak to Mrs Jenkins or let us know in the school Office. Thanks, in advance, for your help with this.
We were thrilled to hear, this week, of the fantastic achievement in swimming by Lauren of Orchid Class. Lauren has achieved her Silver Swimming Challenge Badge, including a distance-swim of 800 metres, which is a very impressive 32 lengths (Wow!) of the baths. Well done Lauren!
Finally, may I please ask all parents who cross Page Road to remember to do so at Keith’s crossing point. There are two special reasons for this: firstly it is not safe for you and your children; secondly, and most importantly, it sets a bad example for children to follow. Please.........let’s all remember to cross with Keith.
A reminder that Term 3 ends on Friday 10th February and Term 4 begins on Tuesday 21st February. Monday 20th February is an INSET Day and the school is closed to pupils.
