Medication and Appointments

If your child has an appointment with a doctor or dentist during the school day, please let the school office know prior to the appointment. This can then be noted in the register accordingly. If it is after the school day has started, the child must be picked up from school and brought back to school by a parent/carer/guardian.

Should your child be taken ill in school during the day we will make every effort to contact you. In view of this it is vital that we have up to date contact numbers.  You will be asked to provide an alternative contact number in case you can’t be reached.

If your child has been absent from school because of illness, we ask that they do not return to school before they are fully recovered. This is in order to prevent spread of illnesses around the school. In the case of stomach upsets the recommendation is they don’t return until 24 – 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.

Medication:
The school is not legally responsible for giving medication whilst your child is in school.  Obviously we are aware that in certain circumstances it will be necessary for a child to have medication during the school day. In these circumstances the procedure is as follows:
A written request must be made to the school for us to administer the medication
The medicine must  be clearly marked with the childs name and the amount to be given and when

  • The medicine must be given to the school office for safe keeping
  • A form of indemnity must be signed by the parent
  • Any medication to be administered at school must be kept at school in its own container and not be transported daily by the child.

Health Checks
Our school nurse is Mrs Debbie Willington and she visits the school regularly. If you have any health concerns about your child you may contact Mrs Debbie Willington through the school office. A confidential appointment can be arranged for you.
In addition the school nurse checks the height, weight and sight of all five year olds and the audiometrician visits to test their hearing and the dentist to check their teeth and to carry out any treatment found to be necessary if the parents desire.

Head Lice
Head Lice is a problem in most primary schools. We are not allowed to check your childs hair in school so it is vital that you do it frequently for detection and treatment of these creatures. We have run workshops in the past to inform parents of what to look for and how to deal with the problem. There is plenty of information available and the local chemists are very helpful with regard to available literature and treatments. We have a policy to follow which is available for anyone to see. Our procedure is such that if a child is seen to have headlice their class will have a note sent home  saying that a case of head lice has been noted. It is your responsibility to check your childs hair if a note has been sent home. It is hoped that this procedure will help contain the spread of head lice.

School Uniform

Second hand school uniform. All items will be 50p.  Please bring the correct money.  New school uniform can be bought in two ways.  An order form is available in the office and items are then made available for collection or it can be purchased directly from the school office.

Please make sure that all items of your child's uniform are named. We cannot return items to children if they are not named.

Doors and Bells

We value the security of all at Staple Hill.  In the morning the bell is rung and doors are opened at 8.45 am.  The doors and side gate are closed at 9.00 am.  Reception parents are invited to bring their child into the classroom and settle them in the mornings.  This practice is continued at the beginning of Year 1 but children are then encouraged to become more independent.  All latecomers must go the school office and sign in.  The doors to all the buildings should remain closed at all times during the school day.  At the end of the day the children are escorted to the door by a member of staff. Entrance to the main school is via the school office.

Inclusion at Staple Hill Primary

Staple Hill Primary School is an inclusive community.  All children who apply to Staple Hill are admitted without prejudice and in accordance with the LA arrangements for providing placements for children with SEN.

No child is excluded from any educational activity either during school hours or outside.

Access to the school site is by the main entrance. There are automatic, wheelchair friendly doors, a lift, assessible toilets on both levels and an accessible shower.

The school has an accessibility plan which covers future policies for increasing access to the school for pupils with disabilities a copy of which can be obtained from the school office.

The Special Educational Needs policy can also be obtained form the school ofice.

If any parent/carer , or any other person involved directly with the school require any specifice service in order to receive information in any format, Staple Hill Schol will endeavour to meet these needs wherever possible.
