Second hand school uniform will be on sale on Mondays from 25th September from 3.00 – 3.15 pm in the Family Room. All items will be 50p. Please bring the correct money. New school uniform can be bought in two ways. An order form is available in the office and items are then made available for collection or it can be purchased directly from the parents room (at the back of the infant playground) every Friday at 3pm.
Please make sure that all items of your child's uniform
are named. We cannot return items to children if they are
not named.
Doors and Bells
We value the security of all at Staple Hill. In the morning the bell is rung and doors are opened at 8.45 am. They are closed at 9.00 am. Reception parents are invited to bring their child into the classroom and settle them in the mornings. This practice is continued at the beginning of Year 1 but children are then encouraged to become more independent. All latecomers must go the school office and sign in. The doors to all the buildings should remain closed at all times during the school day. At the end of the day the children are escorted to the door by a member of staff. Please do not come into the cloakroom areas with your child, it creates congestion and safety is compromised. Entrance to the main school is via the school office.
School Uniform
If your child has an appointment with a doctor or dentist during the school day, please let the school office know prior to the appointment. This can then be noted in the register accordingly. If it is after the school day has started, the child must be picked up from school and brought back to school by a parent/carer/guardian.
Should your child be taken ill in school during the day we will make every effort to contact you. In view of this it is vital that we have up to date contact numbers. You will be asked to provide an alternative contact number in case you can’t be reached.
If your child has been absent from school because of illness, we ask that they do not return to school before they are fully recovered. This is in order to prevent spread of illnesses around the school. In the case of stomach upsets the recommendation is they don’t return until 24 – 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.
Medication:
The school is not legally responsible for giving medication whilst your child is in school. Obviously we are aware that in certain circumstances it will be necessary for a child to have medication during the school day. In these circumstances the procedure is as follows:
A written request must be made to the school for us to administer the medication
The medicine must be clearly marked with the childs name and the amount to be given and when
The medicine must be given to the school office for safe keeping
A form of indemnity must be signed by the parent
Any medication to be administered at school must be kept at school in its own container and not be transported daily by the child.
Health Checks
Our school nurse is Mrs Sue Kilmaster and she visits the school regularly. If you have any health concerns about your child you may contact Mrs Kilminster through the school office. A confidential appointment can be arranged for you.
In addition the school nurse checks the height, weight and sight of all five year olds and the audiometrician visits to test their hearing and the dentist to check their teeth and to carry out any treatment found to be necessary if the parents desire.
Head Lice
Head Lice is a problem in most primary schools. We are not allowed to check your childs hair in school so it is vital that you do it frequently for detection and treatment of these creatures. We have run workshops in the past to inform parents of what to look for and how to deal with the problem. There is plenty of information available and the local chemists are very helpful with regard to available literature and treatments. We have a policy to follow which is available for anyone to see. Our procedure is such that if a child is seen to have headlice their class will have a note sent home saying that a case of head lice has been noted. It is your responsibility to check your childs hair if a note has been sent home. It is hoped that this procedure will help contain the spread of head lice.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give to
me in ensuring that all parents and carers have the opportunity
to gain the information they need. Please bring to my attention
any parent who is not able to access any newsletter for language
or other reasons and I will do all I can to meet their needs.
I know that pupil post is not 100% perfect! So please could
you again help me by mentioning any letters to your friends
and fellow parents, in the playground or wherever, so that
everyone is aware of their existence and of the dates and
other information listed within? Thank you for your help.
