Assessing the New National Curriculum – 2014 onwards
We are currently delivering the New National Curriculum for all subjects, with the exception of our current Y2 and Y6 in Maths and English (They will be taught the New National Curriculum for English and Maths from September 2015 onwards).
The Department for Education has now removed Level Descriptors from the new National Curriculum and required schools to come up with a suitable method of monitoring pupils learning progress and achievement and reporting this to parents and to OFSTED.
This year (2014-2015) we have decided to continue using the existing level descriptors from our Assessing Pupil Progress documents in order to assess pupil’s learning in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
From September 2015, we will have a new assessment system in place, which will be mapped to the new curriculum levels. We are beginning to look at a variety of models for this, including one which is being developed by a working party in South Gloucestershire Local Authority. By the end of Term 4 we will need to have completed the first draft of our new assessment framework. We then plan to trial the new framework during the summer term in selected Key Stage 1 and 2 classes.
